I *thought* about writing a post or two this weekend. I've got a number of done-reading, waiting-for-review items. But, listless and lackadaisical, I poked around on Facebook, some discussion forums, and played a lot of solitaire instead.

In other book news, I'm really, really trying to read Pride and Prejudice
for this week's Weekly Geeks carnival. I think the best I can say about it is that it's a fantastic anti-insomnia aid. I'll do a full post on it later this week, but at this point I think it's safe to say that I'm not a classics kind of gal, at least not any more.
Maybe I should try the movie instead. Though I have to say, the mutton-chop doesn't really do it for me. I am apparently a P&P lost cause.

Untouched, s'il vous plait.
As long as you watch the Jennifer Ehle-Colin Firth version, I think you'll find something worth taking away from the film. Honestly, you may not even notice the sideburns.
I love Colin Firth and Austen's books, though, so I admit that I'm biased from the get-go.
For what it's worth, the penis post brought me here, and I've checked back regularly since then...
And I'd like to read a review of Untouched as well.

Have you tried Northanger Abbey? It's got flaws, but I think you might appreciate it. N.A. pokes fun at the gothic novels that were in style at the time. Particularly in the first half of the book, Austen plays with the common conventions of the genre. (maybe a little like like spiky penises for the 18th Century girl reader? Or you can play that angle for your review post, anyway.)

Jen, maybe that's the problem -- I'm not sufficiently familiar with the norms of 18th century literature to "get" the jokes. It's not that I can't appreciate the humor here and there -- I particularly like and identify with Mr. Bennet (the girls' father). That's probably all wrong, huh?

It took me a LONG time to read P&P, but once I got used to the word usage, I loved it. But I already loved the movies BEFORE I read the books.
I recommend trying the P&P made in 2005 w/ Keira Knightley & Matthew MacFadyen to start. It follows the book to a certain degree, but has more passion. And he's just yummy as Darcy. :)
I would love to see more of the penis post...:)
Also, I am in the process of reading "Kiss of a Demon King" and would love to read what you think of it. Always love your opinions of books.
